Hi, this is Kate Pierson
I'd like to personally invite you to Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel, my cabin fever fantasy. Monica and I have tried our best to create our dream getaway right here in the Catskill Mountains, near famous Woodstock, New York.
As a member of the rock band, The B-52s, believe me, I've stayed at them all - from the Four Seasons in LA to the Pink Flamingo Motel in Gatorville, Florida. I do know a motel from a hotel, or a no-tell!
Inside the cozy, rustic cabins you'll find mind-blowing mid-century modern/space age/rocket-your-socks-off decor. The suites are filled with authentic 50s-style kitchens turned out with vintage cabinets, Frigidaires and stoves - all in dazzing colors! Wait 'till you get a load of my to-die-for tchotchkes from shopping sprees all around America (hey, a girl's got to do something while on tour!).
And oh...did I mention that Lazy Meadow is located on nine beautiful acres, and one big lazy meadow? Complete with stirring Catskill Mountain views, it's fronted by a private secluded section of the magnificent Esopus Creek (famous for tubing and trout-fishing).
When I first saw Lazy Meadow
I flipped my wig! The 1950s cabins fuelled my fantasies and my imagination took off like a blazing campfire. The cabins needed work to be restored to their former glory, but they were bustin' at the seams with potential. I never could've done it ALL alone.Enter my friends...geniuses all!
I had a blast working closely with my friends (A.K.A. design team) on this decorating safari. My pal, Bill Stewart, of the acclaimed design studio 'William Stewart Design' in both Atlanta and New York selected the dazzing color pallette for Lazy Meadow - from floor to ceiling to countertop! He's mad. I tell you, MAD!
My artist buddies, Phillip Maberry and Scott Walker, known as the groovy duo whose home was the "Love Shack" set for the B-52's video, designed and installed fab-u-lous tiles and ceramic bubble art for the cabins. They went through the whole joint like a pair of Tasmanian tornadoes - fine-tuning and placing all the artwork, tchotchkes, furniture and myriad lamps and such in a way that just says "WOW!" So, if you've got cabin fever, head to the Catskills for a fall free-for-all. It's a gorgeous day, and I know you've been working too hard.
So GET LAZY and come on up to Kate's Lazy Meadow!

Mount Tremper, N.Y.: Kate’s Lazy Meadow

THE BASICS
Kate’s Lazy Meadow, a motel in the Catskills co-owned by Kate Pierson of the B-52s, opened in 2004 during the height of the boutique hotel trend — those minimal snob zones of chilly, indistinguishable rooms. The Lazy Meadow couldn’t be more different — its groovy suites are decorated with orange tiki heads, troll statues, cowgirls and plastic butterflies, along with atomic-age furniture. What’s more, if you’re someone who spent your teenage years blasting B-52s’ albums like “Whammy!” on your Walkman, this place is a dream come true. The minute I got in my room, I dropped my bags, played “Legal Tender” on my laptop and danced my mess around.
THE LOCATION
A former summer motel on nine acres, Lazy Meadow rests on a flat stretch of Route 28, in a postcard-worthy valley 12 miles from Woodstock, N.Y. Ms. Pierson and the co-owner, Monica Coleman, spent two years gutting and renovating the property and, along with the nine rooms, added five vintage Airstream trailers, behind the motel next to Esopus Creek.
THE ROOMS
The wacky but tidy rooms were decorated by Ms. Pierson, whose orange-hair likeness can be found on no-smoking signs (“Don’t stink up my Love Shack!”). I stayed in room No. 4, the Psychedelic Gnome room, which had a large photomural wallpaper of an autumnal forest, with butterflies and gnomes added for extra flair. The bed was big and comfortable, the sheets were flannel, and I was lulled to sleep by the sound of cars passing on Route 28.
BATHROOMS
The bathroom was small but orderly with orange towels and good water pressure. Ms. Pierson sometimes snags toiletries from hotels while on tour, but my bathroom had the officially stocked Razz My Berries shampoo and conditioner.
THE SCENE
Things were fairly quiet in late April, but it’s easy to imagine this place hopping in the summer with aging hipsters looking for fun and an excuse to play “Rock Lobster.” The motel says it usually fills up every weekend between now and New Year’s, and suggests reserving six weeks in advance for any weekend.
AMENITIES
Cellphones don’t work there, but each room has Wi-Fi and a land line. There’s also cable television, and an in-room DVD and VHS library of campy classics. My movie library included the 1985 action flick “Gymkata,” about a hunky, deadly martial artist-gymnast, and the 1983 made-for-TV shocker “The Day After.” If you need high-end pampering, go to the nearby Emerson Resort and Spa for a massage or salt scrub.
ROOM SERVICE
No room service, but there’s a kitchenette in every unit but two. You’ll also find colorful, Velveeta-worthy flatware and, perhaps, treats left behind, like a jar of Bac-Os. There’s a fruit and vegetable stand across the street that runs on the honor system, and a grocery and liquor store in nearby Boiceville. For fine dining, Woodstock is not far, but you’ll be inspired to stay in and make margaritas and ants on a log.
BOTTOM LINE
A celebration of anything brightly colored and inherently tacky — like the B-52s themselves. The only thing in bad taste is taking yourself seriously. Rooms from $150, with a two-night minimum on weekends. Kate’s Lazy Meadow, 5191 Route 28, Mount Tremper, N.Y.; (845) 688-7200
